DIY & How~To Home Painting Projects
Let's get painting with a Home Decor Series!
This video is in advance of the next episode (go to Handi Mandi TV: Upcoming projects link above) to prepare you all for painting. Got lots of tips and tricks for you to save if you're on a budget. So here's what you'll need:
DOLLAR STORE:
Paint Roller
Paint Rolls (sponge is easier to clean, fiber is disposable, other can create texture.)
Drop Cloths
Painter's Tape (wide & narrow)
Paint Bin
Paint Brush (choose natural bristles that aren't layered at the edge)
PAINT STORE or DEPARTMENT:
Paint
Stir sticks (clean them after every use)
Adjustable Stick (to attach paint roller, best for ceiling or for high walls)
CONSTRUCTION STORE or DEPARTMENT:
Wallboard Joint Compound (you can purchase dust control to avoid having to wear a mask, especially useful when doing large areas)
Palette Knifes
Sand Paper
TIPS:
* Texture ceilings, NOT walls as it will be hard to clean, but you can always texture a canvas to add a wall art.
* Miss-tints are a great buy, they are buckets of paint that turned out the wrong shade and stores sell at a discount b/c customer didn't want it. You can find them at paint stores or at the paint department at Renovation/Construction or Superstores.
* Wear Multiple layers, large t-shirts over tank top and pants over shorts, so you can shed or add layers as you need them without going anywhere to change and waste time.
* Divide your walls from top to bottom in four areas and this will save you aching back and arms while you paint:
Lower-Bottom: sit on the floor
Lower-Middle: sit on stool
Middle-High: stand
High-Ceiling: stand on stool
* Use two strips of wide tape on the ceiling where it meets the wall your going to paint to avoid getting your paint on the ceiling
* Use a paint brush and dab small areas and use a damp wet cloth to wipe up any mistake (*this only works when the paint it still fresh and wet)

Ready to learn how to paint, cut, and nail an easy home renovation?
Here I will teach you step-by-step how to design and construct faux wall panels for your home. I will also show you how to use a chop saw and a compressor nail gun, both of which you can rent from your local hardware store if you don't already have one or don't wish to purchase these expensive pieces of equipment.
Here's what you'll need:
HARDWARE STORE:
Safety glasses
PAINT STORE:
Three to four paint colours (the gallons will be determined based on how big a spaces need painting):
1. Wall Colour (Medium-Light)
2. Panel Colour (Medium-Light to Medium)
3. Trim Colour (Light to Medium-Light)
4. OPTIONAL: Contrast wall colour (same as trim or either lighter or darker, or in the same family as Wall Colour #1)
Chop Saw on Stand (Rent or Buy)
Compressor Nail Gun (Rent or Buy)
Nails (for nail gun, must be long enough to go through trim and far enough into wall to hold trim, but not too long to potentially damage anything inside your wall, ie electrical, etc)

Noise Cancelling Earphones (ask if you can rent some with your equipment or use noise cancelling music headphones)
